About Me

Hey, I’m Bhanu Chandra.

I’m a backend engineer who enjoys building systems from scratch and then figuring out how to make them survive real production scale.

At Cuemath, I’ve worked on some of the company’s core backend systems. I built large parts of the MathGym platform, including matchmaking, room management, leaderboards, streaks, real-time gameplay infrastructure, and intelligent notifications – helping scale it to 50K+ MAU and 6,000+ daily games.

As the platform grew, I led the migration from Colyseus to PubNub P2P when the original architecture started becoming a bottleneck. That shift reduced latency by 50% and made the system much easier to scale horizontally.

I’ve also built the Home Feed system for the Cuemath app and worked on an AI-powered insights platform that generates weekly summaries for parents using LLMs through an asynchronous, cost-efficient pipeline.

What I enjoy most is working on backend problems where system design, reliability, scale, and product thinking all come together – especially in 0→1 builds that later need to handle real users and real traffic.

Led end-to-end teacher platform development directly under VP of Engineering, onboarding 4,000 teachers in 4 months. Built recruitment-to-payout lifecycle processing ₹8Cr monthly across 7,000 teachers with zero manual errors. Optimized payout statement generation (4,000/month), reducing operations workload by 32 hours monthly. Designed teacher incentive system coordinating across 4 teams, awarding ₹53.8L across 2,561 incentives.

Circle Multiplayer Platform — Real-time Gaming Backend

Owned platform serving 6,000 daily games with 315ms P95 latency, 500 RPS and 100% uptime over 16 months. Architected migration from Colyseus server auth model to event driven PubNub P2P, reducing latency 50% and enabling unbounded scaling. Built matchmaking, tournaments, Redis leaderboards, notification engine with 35% D7 retention.

Platform Engineering

Migrated 20K users and 15 APIs to Leap platform with zero downtime. Shipped 7 major features in 6 months: Event based Home Feed System, Multi-provider auth, Parent Led Admissions, Parent UX redesign, Circle games integration into the demo classes etc., Built School Math DSL enabling 8× content creation efficiency (2 hrs → 15 mins) saving 160+ hours monthly.

AI-Powered Parent Insights

Built AI system generating weekly summaries (strengths, weaknesses, tips) using LLMs on multi-domain workout data. Designed multi-tier pipeline (weekly → monthly → quarterly) using prompt chaining and historical context. Implemented async architecture (cron + PostgreSQL), decoupling AI generation from request path → sub-50ms API latency. Integrated GPT-4o-mini/4o with structured outputs, ensuring auditability and ~$80/month cost at 100K users. Leveraged Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Git worktrees with research → plan → implement workflow to accelerate development.

Worked on backend systems for AI-driven financial planning and automated money movement.

Developed financial plan manager orchestrating workflows across microservices using Django and PostgreSQL. Implemented intelligent payment collection algorithm, optimizing charge timing to prevent overdrafts while maximizing collection success .

Collaborated closely with multiple teams to ensure reliability and correctness of financial workflows. Improved monitoring and debugging of Airflow-based batch pipelines under strict SLA requirements.

Software Internship

TCG DIGITAL, May 2018 - June 2018

My internship experiences as a software intern at TCG Digital have broadened my skill set and made me a better team player. I could interact with accomplished professionals from diverse backgrounds, which helped me inculcate their professional practices and perspectives.

Created an online tool for compiling and sharing Mcube platform build by using Jenkins automation server to automate the building process of different platform builds.

Created Jenkinsfiles that use MultiBranch Pipeline to build the source code from source version control(SVN). Added support for Arabic Language into the analytic product Mcube.

Had hands-on experience in Docker, SVN, Jenkins along with Mcube platform architecture.
